KARACHI: The government has said around 7.6 million people have registered for the Special Fuel Relief Scheme, with 7.71 million fuel-relief tokens redeemed since the programme was launched.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar chaired a meeting of the National Steering Committee on Fuel Subsidy after returning from New York to review implementation and progress of the scheme.
The meeting reviewed registration, token redemption, payments and complaint management, with the token redemption process now entering its second week.
Mr Dar directed federal and provincial authorities to maintain close coordination to facilitate beneficiaries and ensure smooth delivery of the subsidy programme across the country.
The scheme involves the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Ministry of Petroleum, Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra), State Bank of Pakistan and provincial governments.
Officials briefed the committee on progress in registration and redemption, as well as arrangements for payments and resolution of complaints from beneficiaries.
The meeting was attended by the federal ministers for IT and Telecommunication and Information and Broadcasting, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa, federal and provincial secretaries, and senior officials from the State Bank, Ogra, National Information Technology Board and Pakistan Digital Authority.
